Emollient Bounces Back in Rodeo Drive
Emollient won the $300,000 Rodeo Drive Stakes by a half-length under Rosie Napravnik to earn an automatic berth in the BC Filly & Mare Turf.
The 4-year-old filly ran 1 1/4 miles on the turf in 2:02.42 and paid $8.40, $5.60 and $3.60.
Responding
to a question about traffic trouble around the first turn, winning jockey Rosie Napravnik said: “I had so much
horse I knew I could wait until something opened up. I was in a good
position and could see where the holes were going to open up and she was
really on her game today. When I rode her last time, she did the same
thing and when I asked her, she was ready. I’m very thankful to
Juddmonte and to Bill Mott to have me on her again.”
Parranda returned $7 and $4.20, while Rusty Slipper and Irish Mission finished in a dead-heat for third, 1 1/4 lengths back. Rusty Slipper paid $6 to show, while Irish Mission paid $2.60.
Mike Smith, aboard Moulin de Mougin, got tossed when his mount slipped and fell on the far outside in the stretch turn. They had come from last and were picking off horses when the 4-year-old filly went down on her own, sending Smith flying.
