Emerald Downs has a new riding sensation.
He's apprentice jockey Pedro Terrero, a 25-year-old native of Guanajuato, Mexico, and he rode four more winners Saturday— Cee the Lady punctuating the spree in the $13,100 Woodford Reserve Purse—and upped his two-day count to seven wins and his season total to 20. Terrero's 31.7 win percentage tops the charts, and he's threatening to topple Juan Gutierrez, the meet's leading rider with 22 wins.
Saturday, Terrero became only the second jockey this season to ride four winners on a card while leapfrogging defending champion Ricky Frazier into a second-place tie with Gallyn Mitchell. With five scheduled mounts Sunday, Terrero needs three wins to tie Frazier's mark of 10 wins in a three-day week.
