Alex and JoAnn Lieblong's Embellish the Lace came out of her front-running 1 ¼-length victory in Saturday's Grade 1 Alabama in good order, trainer Tony Dutrow reported Sunday morning.

Tracked through an opening mile first by Lovely Maria and then Curalina, both multiple Grade 1 winners, Embellish the Lace opened up on the field at the top of the stretch and had plenty left to hold off a late run from I'm a Chatterbox for her first graded stakes victory.

"She seems very good. She had plenty of energy today," Dutrow said. "I was so impressed with her like so many people were, but I really wasn't surprised. We thought she was capable of that, and we were so happy to actually see it."

It was the third career victory for jockey Javier Castellano and first for Dutrow in the Alabama, one of the oldest and most prestigious races in the country for 3-year-old fillies, dating back to 1872.

"It's such a special race," Dutrow said. "The Alabama is a big, big race throughout the country for many, many years, and we were fortunate enough to get there. We're very privileged."

Dutrow also sent the Lieblongs' Grade 1 winner The Big Beast to the main track for a half-mile work in 49.09 seconds in preparation for Saturday's Grade 1, $700,000 Priority One Jets Forego.

"He went very good," Dutrow said. "We're very, very good with him. We just want things to stay the way they are right now for next Saturday."
