The floods that followed heavy rain in the Midwest and South did not spare Ellis Park, located on the Ohio River in Henderson, Ky.
This photo, posted by Tommy Mason of WEVV-TV in Evansville, Ind., shows the extent of the flooding at the track this week.
Kevin Kerstein, who handles publicity for Turfway Park and its owner, Churchill Downs Inc., said no horses are at the facility.
The river is expected to crest Saturday, he said, and "after the water levels on the roads begin to recede, the Ellis team is ready to begin cleanup and have the barn area ready for opening in a few weeks."
Ellis Park announced Saturday that operations would be suspended beginning Monday. Racing resumes at the track July 3 and runs through Aug. 25.
