Irish-bred Elektrum, owned by Hronis Racing and trained by John Sadler, will pack highweight of 124 pounds versus five rivals Sunday in the Grade II $200,000 Goldikova Stakes for older fillies and mares at one mile over the Del Mar turf course.
Post time for the first of eight races is 12:30 p.m.
Elektrum, a four-year-old daughter of High Chapparal, will have Victor Espinoza in the saddle as she attempts to duplicate her winning performance in the John C. Mabee Stakes last summer. She scored by a head over Queen of the Sand, who also is entered in the Goldikova. Subsequently, Elektrum was runner-up to Photo Call in the Rodeo Drive at Santa Anita.
In addition to Queen of the Sand, who will be piloted by Mike Smith, Elektrum’s other foes are Gender Agenda (Tyler Baze), Stormy Lucy (Corey Nakatani), Uzziel (Kent Desormeaux) and Living the Life (Joe Bravo). All of the aforementioned are in at 119 pounds according to allowance conditions of the Goldikova Stakes.
