Electric Ride, 2nd in the G2 Chandelier, dies at Santa Anita

Electric Ride, a candidate for the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies after finishing second in the Oct. 1 Chandelier Stakes (G2), died Saturday at Santa Anita Park.

The cause of death for Electric Ride, who was trained by John Sadler, was attributed as non-musculoskeletal sudden death with anaphylactic shock, according to the California Horse Racing Board web site. Anaphylactic shock is an allergic reaction that can be prompted by food, injection, or other allergens such as an insect sting, according to online sources.

Electric Ride worked last Saturday morning at Santa Anita in her first breeze since the Chandelier, when she was beaten four lengths by Ain't Easy under Joe Bravo. The daughter of Daredevil, who was a $250,000 auction purchase by Michael Talla's Talla Racing, won her debut at Del Mar on Aug. 28 prior to the Chandelier. 

Electric Ride was one of four equine deaths at Southern California racetracks in a four-day period ending Sunday. Last Thursday, Kakistocracy died at Santa Anita due to non-musculoskeletal sudden death. The 5-year-old gelding was trained by Carla Gaines. 

At Los Alamitos, the quarter-horse Favorite Doc died on Saturday and the Thoroughbred Luca's Ride, trained by Jesus Nunez, died on Sunday. Both were attributed to non-musculoskeletal sudden death.
