East Avenue leads 1st Kentucky Derby Future Wager pool
Fans will have their first of six chances to bet on the 151st running of the Kentucky Derby 2025 when Pool 1 of the Kentucky Derby Future Wager opens Wednesday at noon EDT. The pool features 38 individual betting interests as well as options for all fillies foaled in 2022 and all other colts and geldings foaled in 2022.
Bettors can place $2 win and exacta wagers on horses in pool 1 with betting to conclude Friday at 6 p.m. EDT before the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile is staged at Del Mar.
The 10-1 individual favorite in pool 1 is Breeders’ Futurity (G1) winner East Avenue, the undefeated colt owned by Godolphin and trained by Brendan Walsh who scored an eight-length debut win at Ellis Park before his decisive 5 1/4-length victory in the Breeders’ Futurity on Oct. 5. East Avenue is also expected to be the favorite in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile.

The Kentucky Derby Future Wager will offer six pools ahead of the Derby, including Oct. 30-Nov. 1 for pool 1, Nov. 28-Dec. 1 for pool 2, Jan. 17-19 for pool 3, Feb. 14-16 for pool 4, March 14-16 for pool 5 and April 3-5 for pool 6. Pool 2 will also feature the Kentucky Derby Sire Future Wager, a pool 5 will include the Kentucky Oaks Future Wager.
As in previous years, there are no refunds for the Kentucky Derby Future Wager. If Churchill Downs officials determine a betting interest is unable to compete in the Derby due to injury or illness, wagering on that individual will be suspended immediately.
