Del Mar resident Drew Brees is no stranger to one of the city’s biggest cultural assets, the track and the annual thoroughbred race meeting.

The former Chargers now New Orleans Saints quarterback has graced the winners circle to present trophies and been interviewed about the track and the sport several times in recent years.

His most recent visit: Sunday, when Brees, his wife and sons toured briefly accompanied by Del Mar Thoroughbred Club CEO and President Joe Harper and Pamplemousse Grill co-owner Jeffrey Strauss.

Harper was on hand to thank Brees for being a part of the DMTC video presentation to the Breeders’ Cup in its bid to become a future host site for racing’s fall championship event.

That the group wound up at the stable of trainer Mike Puype was no coincidence. Brees is one of a dozen members of the Donkey Island partnership group formed by Strauss and shares in seven or eight horses.
