Dramedy Holds Off Rivals in Dixiana Elkhorn Upset

The John James Revocable Trust’s Dramedy survived an early duel with My Afleet and then held off a cavalry charge of challengers in deep stretch to win the 30th running of the $250,000 Dixiana Elkhorn (G2) by a neck before a sun-splashed Saturday afternoon crowd of 37,737, the third-largest attendance in Keeneland history.
Trained by Gerald Aschinger and ridden by Joe Bravo, Dramedy covered the 1 ½ miles on a turf course rated as “good” in 2:31.17. It was Bravo’s first Keeneland stakes victory since taking the Doubledogdare in 1998 on Top Secret.
My Afleet and Dramedy had the race to themselves through the first mile as they raced through fractions of :26.57, :52.47, 1:16.31 and 1:40.66 with the next closest challenger more than a dozen lengths back.
The duo reached the head of the stretch in 2:05.37 with the rest of the field beginning to close in. My Afleet yielded first, dropping back at the eighth pole and allowing Dramedy to build enough cushion to hold off the closers.
The victory was worth $150,000 and boosted Dramedy’s earnings to $260,037 with a record of 15-4-2-1.A Keeneland sales grad, Dramedy is a 6-year-old Kentucky-bred son of Distorted Humor out of the A.P. Indy mare She’s a Winner.
Sent off as the longest shot on the board in the field of eight, Dramedy returned $63.60, $21.20 and $7.60. Dynamic Sky got up for second under Julien Leparoux and returned $4.80 and $3.20 with defending champion Unitarian finishing a head back in third as the favorite and paying $3 to show under Javier Castellano.
Biz The Nurse (IRE) finished another length back in fourth and was followed in order by Aldous Snow, My Afleet, Cary Street and Holiday Star.
