White Wabbit Wacing LLC’s Dr. Wesley gained the lead soon after the start, set quick early fractions and drew clear in the lane to capture the $38,000 allowance/optional claiming feature at Monmouth Park on Sunday by 3 ½ lengths.

With apprentice Trevor McCarthy in the irons, Dr. Wesley went the opening quarter mile in :21 3/5 before stepping the half in :43 4/5.  The Jason Servis-trainee reported home in 1:09 flat for six furlongs over a fast main track.

The winner returned $20.40, $6.40 and $4.20 and topped a $68.40 exacta.  Evolution Rocks, the favorite in the field of seven colts and geldings, paid $3 and $2.60.  It was another two lengths back to Thunder Hole, who paid $3.40 to show.

A 4-year-old gelding by Quiet American from the Forest Wildcat mare Courtney’s Woods, Dr. Wesley has won five of his 16 lifetime starts.

Live racing continues at Monmouth Park on Saturday, Sept. 21, New Jersey Thoroughbred Festival Day, featuring the best runners bred in the Garden State.  Gates open 11:30 a.m., first post 12:50 p.m.
