Doubledogdare fair odds: Loved looks to be the play
Of the seven entrants in the Grade 3, $300,000 Doubledogdare Stakes on Friday at Keeneland, the top three choices have 92 of the 126 points on Nick Tammaro's morning line. So if they were a three-horse entry, then they'd be 2-5.
I agree that those are the three who will take money, but more importantly for wagering purposes, I don't like one of them, so that should give us a chance to bet one of the others.
The toss is Raging Sea, 5-2 second choice on the line in her 4-year-old debut for trainer Chad Brown. She has a similar style to 8-5 morning line favorite Scylla, and I think Scylla is at an advantage having raced this year.
But I actually prefer the third choice on the line, Loved at 3-1. She laid an egg in her stakes debut last year then was on the shelf until this race. There is other speed to her outside, but the Brisnet Pace Ratings say she's faster than those types, and I expect her to be the play here.
Queen of Missoula cuts back from 1 1/4 miles and is worth using underneath given that things could get spirited up front and she does have a win at this track and distance. Curl Girl gets Luis Saez for her return to dirt. She is another with a win at this track and distance.
My expectation is that Loved will be worth a win bet, and I will also key Queen of Missoula and Curl Girl with Scylla and Loved.
