Dortmund, a multiple graded-stakes winner, has died at a South Korea stud farm at age 10.

Great Hill Farm said in an Instagram post that the son of Big Brown died on April 18 after suffering "a small bowel torsion he acutely suffered while out on the grass."

Dortmund's career started with six straight victories for trainer Bob Baffert, including wins in the Los Alamitos Futurity (G1), Robert B. Lewis (G3), San Felipe (G2) and Santa Anita Derby (G1). He then finished third in the 2015 Kentucky Derby and fourth in the Preakness.

His last race was a fourth-place finish in the Santana Mile at Santa Anita in 2017, and he was retired with a record of 16: 8-2-2 and earnings of about $2 million.

Previously owned by Kaleem Shah, he was sold in late 2020 to a South Korean opthalmologist, Bloodhorse.com reported.
