Dominguez Off Mounts Saturday

Jockey Ramon Dominguez, who was involved in a spill in Friday’s sixth race at Belmont Park, is off his Saturday mounts with some general stiffness but hopes to ride on Sunday, according to his agent Steve Rushing.

In the Friday race, a one-mile allowance optional claimer for New York-bred fillies and mares run on the Widener turf course, Dominguez was aboard Ms Stilleto (No. 6), who appeared to clip heels with Starjetta (No. 2) on the backstretch, causing Ms Stilleto to stumble and unseat her rider. Dominguez stood and walked unassisted to the chase ambulance and was taken to NYRA First Aid for evaluation, then transported to North Shore University Hospital. He was released from the hospital on Friday evening.

Dominguez, 34, is currently third in the Belmont Park spring/summer meet jockey standings with 23 wins. He was the leading rider in New York last year and in 2009, his first full year of riding on the NYRA circuit. The Venezuelan native won the Eclipse Award for Outstanding Jockey in 2010 and led the nation in earnings with more than $16 million in purses.
