Did you miss the fastest speed figure of last week?
You might have overlooked Friday's eighth race at Oaklawn, where Hollis, a 6-year-old son of Street Sense, won by 4 1/2 lengths at odds of 4.6-1.
If you missed it, you also missed the fastest performance of the weekend.
With Ricardo Santana Jr. aboard, Hollis covered 5 1/2 furlongs in 1:02.17, breaking the track record and beating heavy favorite Nashville in the process. The previous record was 1:02.60 – converted from fifths of a second – set by Sis Pleasure Fager in a Feb. 15, 1984, allowance race for fillies and mares, according to an Oaklawn news release.
Hollis, trained by John Ortiz, received a preliminary Beyer figure of 109 for his effort.
Other top Beyer figures from the weekend went to Last Samurai, who earned a 95 for his win in the black-type Poinsettia Stakes at Oaklawn, going 1 1/16 miles in 1:43.70 for trainer Dallas Stewart.
Glass Ceiling got an 88 Beyer for her 2 1/4-length win in the listed Garland of Roses Stakes at Aqueduct, going six furlongs in 1:11.19 for trainer Charlton Baker.
Officiating's upset of the Mr. Prospector (G3) earned him an 87 Beyer Speed figure, and Slow Down Andy got an 85 for his win in the Los Alamitos Futurity (G2).
