Diadura probable for Arlington-Washington Lassie
Empryean Stables and Two Princesses’ Diadura, a winner at first asking, is likely to start in the $75,000 Arlington-Washington Lassie at Arlington International Racecourse on Sept. 10. Racing for trainer Mike Stidham in her Aug. 5 debut, the 2-year-old daughter of Hard Spun had to steady early in the five-furlong synthetic start before coming from five lengths off the pace to close evenly and win by half a length.
“She’s doing very well,” Stidham said. “The seven furlongs [distance] is going to help her a lot. She got in quite a bit of trouble [in her debut]. We’ve liked her from the beginning, and when she went out there and overcame all that to get up and win going five-eighths [of a mile] we were pretty pleased with all that.”
Diadura, out of the stakes-winning mare Daytime Promise, posted a bullet work on Aug. 28, drilling five furlongs in a minute flat for the best of 31 works at that distance that morning.
“She is going to work this weekend,” Stidham remarked. “If she works well and comes out of it okay then she’s [most likely to run].”
RIVELLI POINTING RICHIESDREAMGIRL FOR JUVENILE STAKE
V-Leaf Stables and Richard Ravin’s homebred Richiesdreamgirl will point to the $75,000 Arlington-Washington Lassie for juvenile fillies on Sept. 10 for her next start. The Larry Rivelli trainee won her debut at Arlington International Racecourse convincingly, breaking sharply and leading wire-to-wire in the five furlong synthetic start on July 7.
A 2-year-old daughter of Munnings, the Illinois-bred came out of her 3¼ length victory in good order. She is out of the Wildcat Heir mare Wilddreamscometrue, a full sister to Grade III winner Richiesgirlgonewild. Richiesdreamgirl came back to work four times since the win, most recently covering six furlongs in 1:13.2 on Aug. 31 in preparation for the seven furlong Lassie.
“She worked awesome,” Rivelli said. “We’ll work her [this week] a little slow, just a blowout work. She’s ready.”
CATALANO LOOKING AT LASSIE FOR ROYALTY PRINCESS
Wayne Catalano trainee Royalty Princess could make her next start in the $75,000 Arlington-Washington Lassie on Sept. 10. Owned by Royalty Farms, the filly won her debut by two lengths when sprinting on the turf at Arlington International Racecourse on Aug. 4. Breaking from the rail, she took the lead from the beginning and opened up by as many as five lengths turning for home in the five furlong start.
The 2-year-old daughter of Hat Trick (JPN) worked five furlongs from the gate over the main track at Arlington in 59.40 seconds on Sept. 3. Catalano says the final decision will come after judging her work, but they are leaning towards running her in seven-furlong Lassie.
MASON NOTCHES 300TH CAREER VICTORY
In the fifth race at Arlington International Racecourse on Sept. 2, trainer Ingrid Mason saddled her 300th career winner when Honour Camp, a 3-year-old son of Put It Back owned by Mason, Little Bear Racing Stables and Cumberland Stable, took the six-furlong race wire-to-wire under jockey Julio Felix. Making his 12 lifetime start, the gelding who broke his maiden at Arlington a year ago earned his second career win when switched back to the Polytrack following two turf sprints.
Prior to taking out her trainer’s license in 2004, Mason worked as an exercise rider in Dubai for Sheikh Mohammed and as a jockey in California. She began her training career at Calder Racecourse in Florida before coming to Arlington. Mason earned her first Arlington Stakes win with Flower Spell in the 2013 Meafara Stakes. She also trained 2015 Arlington-Washington Lassie winner Marquee Miss.
Mason has raced over 1700 starters in her career with earnings upwards of $6,600,000. Her biggest win came in the Grade II Raven Run Stakes at Keeneland last October when multiple graded stakes winner Sarah Sis notched her victory by a half-length at odds of 17-1. The pair came back to win the Grade III Chicago Handicap at Arlington this year.
