Jockeys Frankie Dettori and Oisin Murphy were suspended for their rides during last week’s Royal Ascot meet.

At The Races reported that Dettori was suspended July 13-15 and 17-21 for using the crop seven times aboard Inspiral, who finished second in the Group 1 Queen Anne Stakes. The allowed limit is six strikes, and the penalty is a four-day ban. That’s doubled for a Group 1 race.

Dettori already was due to serve a nine-day ban July 4-12 for causing interference on Saga in the Wolferton Stakes. Dettori is appealing, according to the report.

The more recent suspension means he will miss the July Cup, the only domestic Group 1 race that Dettori has not won. He plans to retire at the end of the year.

Murphy was suspended July 11-15 and 17-19 for one strike too many when riding Valiant King to a runner-up finish in the listed King George V Stakes.
