Derby trail: Fierceness, Nysos fire Saturday-morning bullets
Breeders' Cup Juvenile winner Fierceness, the joint shortest price in Las Vegas futures at a 15-1 best price, worked a bullet at Palm Beach Downs on Saturday morning. The Todd Pletcher trainee covered five furlongs in 59.4 seconds, fastest of 12 who went the distance. It was Fierceness's sixth workout since the Breeders' Cup, and he is expected to return in the Holy Bull (G3) on Feb. 3.
Nysos, the joint third choice in Las Vegas Kentucky Derby markets at 18-1 best price, also drilled a bullet on Saturday morning. His six-furlong work in 1:12.6 was the fastest of six at the trip. He last raced Nov. 19 at Del Mar, when he won the Bob Hope. Trained by Bob Baffert, Nysos will have to be moved to another barn by Jan. 29 in order to remain on the Kentucky Derby trail.
