The Derby Alumni tracker checks in with the horses who raced in the Kentucky Derby, both this year and in previous years, keeping up with what they have done since they ran for the roses.

2024 Kentucky Derby

Two entrants from the 2024 Kentucky Derby earned stakes placings in recent races. In the Grade 3 Perryville on Saturday at Keeneland, Epic Ride held on for a third-place dead heat, a length behind long-shot winner Brunacini. The race was Epic Ride's first start since the Kentucky Derby. Mugatu rallied from last to finish third, 5 3/4 lengths behind Brilliant Ice, in the Maryland Million Classic on Oct. 12 at Laurel.

Society Man is slated to return to action Thursday at Keeneland. He drew post 2 in a nine-horse, 1 1/8-mile optional-claiming allowance race Thursday at Keeneland, where he is the 3-1 second choice on the morning line.

Trainer Phil d'Amato announced that Stronghold will bypass the Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile and instead freshen up and return in the Malibu (G1) on Dec. 26. Domestic Product is expected to race in the Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile on Nov. 2 and then retire to Coolmore's Ashford Stud.

2023 Kentucky Derby

The Kentucky Derby class of 2023 has been busy in recent weeks. Hit Show leads this group, with a game victory in the Lukas Classic (G2) on Sept. 28 at Churchill Downs, where he tracked the pace and ran down leader Cooke Creek to win by a neck. Disarm, the favorite in the Lukas Classic, rallied from last for fourth in the same race.

Hit Show is expected to return to action Saturday in the Fayette (G2) at Keeneland, where he will break from post 8 of 10 and was named the 2-1 morning-line favorite.

Tapit Trice also found the winners' circle recently. Bouncing back from a fourth-place finish in the Jockey Club Gold Cup (G1) on Sept. 1, Tapit Trice overcame a short field in the Whitney (G2) on Sept. 28, rallying from last and getting up by 3/4 length over favored Skippylongstocking.

Derma Sotogake and Mandarin Hero were in action in stakes races in Japan in recent weeks, though neither hit the board. Rocket Can and Jace's Road both hit the board in allowance company recently, with Raise Cain and Lord Miles also in action at that level but out of the money.

Angel of Empire, unraced since the Jim Dandy (G2) in the summer of 2023, was officially retired. He will stand for $7,500 at Taylor Made Farm.

2022 Kentucky Derby

Three entrants from the 2022 Kentucky Derby have returned to the racetrack in recent weeks. Tiz the Bomb, who had been winless since the 2022 Jeff Ruby Steaks (G3), snapped that streak Oct. 11 in a $25,000 claiming race at Gulfstream, run on the Tapeta after being taken off turf. Now trained by Jose D'Angelo, Tiz the Bomb tracked the pace, took control with about two furlongs remaining and romped home by 6 3/4 lengths over Cashier Check.

Rattle N Roll, making his first start in a year, rallied for third behind Hit Show in the Lukas Classic. He was no match for the winner or second-place Cooke Creek, but it was a positive sign after the extended layoff. Rattle N Roll is expected to return to the starting gate Saturday for the Fayette, where he drew post 6 of 10 and has been named the 4-1 morning-line second choice behind Hit Show.

The other runner from the 2022 Kentucky Derby in recent action was Tawny Port, who finished a flat sixth in the Sycamore (G3) on Oct. 11 behind Highway Robber.

Messier, unraced since a sharp victory in the Westchester (G3) on May 3, returns to action Saturday at Belmont at Aqueduct in the Forty Niner (G3), a one-turn mile. He is set to break from post 2 of eight.

2021 Kentucky Derby

Hidden Stash found the winners' circle for the second time this year in an Oct. 3 optional-claiming allowance race at Presque Isle Downs. Settled at the rear in the 1 mile and 70 yard event, he made a smart rally into the lane, led mid-stretch and ran on to hold by 3/4 length. He was in for the optional $40,000 tag that day but returns to action Thursday at Presque Isle Downs with no tag on him. For Thursday's race, the Victoria Oliver trainee stretches out to 1 1/4 miles. He will break from gate 6 of nine, and is 8-1 on the morning line.

Like the King has had a productive season at Woodbine this year, though he was not able to find enough to be a threat in the Singspiel (G3) there on Oct. 5. He drew toward the outside in the 13-horse field, settled near the rear, swung wide and finished ninth, 8 1/2 lengths behind winner Truly Quality.
