DerbyWars $25,000 Head-to-Head March Bracket Championship has gone from 64 players 2 weeks ago to a Final Four today! This month's contenders are all new to the Final Four, so let's get to know them!
Allan Gregory with 2011 Belmont Stakes winner, Ruler On Ice at Monmouth Park
Allan Gregory (Allways allan) caught the racing bug at Monmouth Park when he was teenager, thanks to his best friend, Chris. "I was immediately hooked!" he said. "Since that initial introduction, my horse racing travels have taken my wife and me to several Triple Crown races, multiple Breeders' Cup events and a host of racetracks around the country, including our summertime favorite, Saratoga."
Gregory started playing horse racing tournaments last year, initially with a few live contests at Monmouth Park, and then heavily on Derby Wars. "Most of my handicapping efforts are now focused on Derby Wars," he said, "As I find it the best place to play!"
In Saturday's Sweet Sixteen round, Gregory faced Jon Weill (Jjweill), but it turned out the game was practically won after the first race! Gregory's pick of Classic Point gave him $15.40, which he followed up with fantastic plays with Canadian Flyer and Vow Me Over as the game progressed. Weill could only hit a single scoring horse in this matchup, a $6.00 place pick. Gregory ended the game with a final score of $49.60 to skate into the Elite Eight, and a matchup with Eric Moomey (Moomeyer), the February $100K winner!
"I am an avid user of ALL-WAYS Handicapping software, which is a BRISNET product," he said. "It’s actually the only program and information that I use. It helped point me towards most of my winners over the weekend, which helped me stay consistent with mid-price winners throughout both Saturday and Sunday."
On Sunday, Gregory hit three of the last four races and advanced to the Final Four with a score of $42.20, defeating Moomey, who just couldn't pick up the pace. He will face Albert Tiernan (Dodobird) in the Final Four round on Saturday.
What will he do if he wins the $10,000 First prize and the champion's trophy?
"The trophy will most definitely be displayed in the nursery of our child, who is due later this year," Gregory said. "I think it will give a good kick start to his handicapping career! The 10K, (maybe) a Summer rental in Saratoga? I think also a trip to Europe to visit the racetracks there would certainly be on the list. Oh, and LOT of victory cigars to be shared with friends!"
As for his choice in the NCAA bracket? "Kentucky, who else?!"
