Stronach Stables’ homebred Delta Prince, a half-brother to the recently deceased Royal Delta, remained undefeated in two starts on the turf when he captured Saturday’s finale by swallowing up ground in the stretch to post a half-length victory over Alasaal, who had the lead until the final yards. The Grade 2 Royal Delta Stakes was won earlier in the day by Curlin's Approval.

Delta Prince, the 6-5 favorite, was ridden by John Velazquez in the mile turf race. He completed the distance in 1:34.19 over a firm course.

In his turf debut in December, Delta Prince won a maiden special weight race by four lengths in his third career start. A 4-year-old son of Street Cry, Delta Prince is trained by Jimmy Jerkens.

“The only thing was that he tried to get out a little on the turn, but [John Velazquez] smacked him on the shoulder,” Jerkens said. “He certainly finished strong. He just seems to handle the turf a little better. He has more confidence over it.”
