With a solid run through the stretch, Sheep Pond, Lapenta and Bradley Thoroughbreds’ Delightful Joy posted a nearly two length victory in the Grade 3, $100,000 Monmouth Oaks at Monmouth Park on Saturday afternoon.
Trained by Chad Brown, Delightful Joy covered the mile and a sixteenth over a fast main track in 1:43 3/5 and paid $8.20, $4.20 and $3.20. Eskenformoney, the 5-2 favorite, completed the $33.80 exacta and paid $4 and $3.  It was another neck back to White Clover, who paid $5.20 to show.
“I was told to get a good start and see where I was after the break,” said winning jockey Paco Lopez.  “I wanted to be comfortable and I tucked in a little behind.  When I asked her, she gave me everything she had.  She is a really nice filly.”
A daughter of Tapit from the Graeme Hall mare Graeme Six, Delightful Joy now sports a record of 3-0-1 from five starts.  Saturday’s win was her first stakes victory.
On Saturday, no lone ticket had all six winners in Monmouth Park’s Jersey Shore 6, creating a carryover of $72,230.49 for this Sunday’s card.
The Jersey Shore 6, which is offered daily on Monmouth’s final six races, is a 20-cent wager with a takeout rate of 20%.
On Saturday, five of six winners paid $983.64 to multiple winners.
