Delaware jockey is suspended for amphetamine positive
Jockey John Hiraldo was suspended by the Delaware Thoroughbred Racing Commission after testing positive for amphetamine.
The suspension, reported earlier by BloodHorse, was scheduled to begin Wednesday, according to a listing on the Association of Racing Commissioners International. But he rode in the first race at Delaware Park, winning a claiming race aboard 5-year-old Kidyounot.
According to the ARCI listing, Hiraldo agreed to submit to a random drug test requested by the Delaware commission. After the positive result, he was "summarily suspended." A hearing on the suspension will be held July 7.
Hiraldo, who will turn 22 this month, has a record of 129: 12-11-12 and earnings of $344,422 this year. His career record is 1,293: 140-143-171 with earnings of $4,252,790.
In the current meet at Delaware Park, which began May 24, he is in sixth place in the jockey standings with nine wins from 63 starts.
