Del Mar's Pick 6 winner celebrates

There was a table at Jake’s Del Mar Wednesday night that had some folks with a little extra celebrating to do.

Among those sitting at the table were Scott McKeever of Huntington Beach and his wife Vanessa and trainer Paul Aguirre and his wife, Lisa. McKeever, who founded www.myhorseplayer.com, a gambling site he closed last August, won $1,109,920.80 for being the only person to pick the third through the eighth races at Del Mar. And he had 20 of the 85 consolation tickets, with each worth $4,386 for another $87,720. His total haul was $1,197,646, and after visiting the IRS window at the track, he left with a check for $900,000 and $770 in cash.

“We’re here at Jake’s and Del Mar (the Del Mar Thoroughbred Club) bought us all dinner,” said McKeever, who owns four racehorses and a raw metals company that sells to such companies as Lockheed. “This was such a blessing.”
