Del Mar: Talamo will ride Señor Buscador in Pat O’Brien
Señor Buscador will have a new rider for his start next Saturday in the Grade 2 Pat O’Brien Stakes at Del Mar.
Daily Racing Form reported that Joe Talamo will have the mount for the 6-year-old's first start since he finished third in the Dubai World Cup (G1) in March. In the race before that, Señor Buscador won the Saudi Cup, his only Grade 1 victory.
Talamo, who has been working Señor Buscador since he resumed training in the spring, will replace Junior Alvarado, according to the report. Trainer Todd Fincher told DRF that Alvarado has commitments for next Saturday, including on America's Vow in the Alabama (G1).
On Friday at Santa Anita, Señor Buscador worked five furlongs in 59.20 seconds, second fastest of 46 at the distance. Fincher told DRF the son of Mineshaft is "not a very good work horse," but that Friday's drill was "outstanding."
Fincher said Señor Buscador could mount a late summer and fall campaign and be pointed to the California Crown (G1) on Sept. 28 and the Breeders' Cup Classic.
Señor Buscador has a career record of 19: 7-2-3 and earnings of $12,696,427.
The Pat O'Brien already has a commitment from trainer Eric Kruljac to enter The Chosen Vron, who carries a six-race winning streak into the automatic qualifier for the Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile.
