Debut winner Maymun is back for Baffert in Sunday allowance
Maymun, a dazzling, debut winner going six furlongs for Bob Baffert on Jan. 20 at Santa Anita, returns Sunday and stretches to a mile in a first-level, $67,000 allowance heat. Post time for the sixth race is about 4:30 p.m. EST.
Owned by Zedan Racing Stables, Maymun romped by 7 1/2 lengths in his unveiling under Juan Hernandez, who has the ride again Sunday on the 3-5 morning-line favorite. His winning time of 1:15.59 last month earned a 93 Beyer Speed Figure, the seventh-highest by a 3-year-old this season according to Daily Racing Form.

Maymun is by Frosted out of the Indian Charlie mare Handwoven. Zedan bought the colt for $900,000 at last year’s OBS April sale of 2-year-olds in training.
Imagination is also in the field for Baffert. The son of Into Mischief who commanded $1.05 million at the 2022 Keeneland September yearling sale. Owned by the partnership led by SF Racing, Starlight Racing and Madaket Stables, Imagination exits a one-mile maiden win at Santa Anita on Jan. 1 in his third career start.
Revised Statute, an unraced maiden for trainer Richard Mandella, adds further intrigue to the field. By Constitution, Revised Statue sold for $1.8 million at the 2022 Keeneland September yearling sale. He is campaigned by Pin Oak Stud. Revised Statute has worked eight times for his unveiling.
