Live Lively, the 3-year-old Medaglia d'Oro filly owned by Lee Lewis, was euthanized May 4.
After a morning work at Belmont Park, the grade II winning filly suffered fractures to both the sesamoids in her left foreleg. The Mark Hennig trainee, preparing for the Black-Eyed Susan Stakes (gr. II) at Pimlico Race Course May 17, had recorded a time of 1:01.66 for the five-furlong drill.
"She breezed beautifully this morning, came home in 23 and change, galloped out three-quarters in 1:13 and a couple," said Hennig. "Just before pulling up she broke her sesamoids in her left front just as she switched to her left lead."
