Dance City Upsets Stablemate Cal Nation

Dance City beat overwhelming favorite Cal Nation in the 3rd race at Gulfstream Park on March 19. Both 3-year-old colts are trained by Todd Pletcher.

Dance City was immediately sent after the lead under Javier Castellano and had a 1-1/2 length lead over stablemate Cal Nation after a half in :46.71. They were on even terms through six furlongs (1:11.12) and raced as a team the rest of the way with a nose separating them at the wire. The winning time was 1:36.93 for the flat mile allowance affair.

Bowman's Causeway was a bit less than two lengths behind in 3rd with Red Hills, Cane Garden Bay, and I'm Steppin' It Up completing the order of finish.

Dance City, a Virginia-bred son of City Zip out of Pleasant Colony mare Ballet Colony, paid $15.80 to win.
