Marty McGee, a longtime writer for Daily Racing Form, is resigning from the publication after the Kentucky Derby to become an agent for jockey Joe Talamo.

McGee announced the move Tuesday in a Twitter post.

McGee, winner of a 2013 Eclipse award for outstanding features/commentary, said in his Twitter post that he has been a racing journalist for 38 years, starting with the Baltimore Sun in 1985 and moving to DRF in 1992.

A native of Louisville, Ky., he was based in Kentucky and Florida. He wrote that he has filed racing stories from 17 states and has attended the Kentucky Derby 50 times.

Talamo is married to McGee's niece, according to a Daily Racing Form report. He has 2,289 wins from 16,027 career starts. Talamo won an Eclipse award in 2007 as the outstanding apprentice jockey. He's riding this week at Keeneland.

"He's an immense talent who belongs among the game's elite," McGee wrote in his post.
