Dabster nominated to inaugural Los Alamitos Special

Dabster, who won the Harry F. Brubaker in his last start at Del Mar, is among 14 nominees to the inaugural $100,000 Los Alamitos Special.

A restricted stakes for 3-year-olds & up at 1 ¼ miles, the Special will be run for the first time Sunday, Sept. 16 at Los Alamitos.


Trained by Hall of Famer Bob Baffert for Sheik Mohammed bin Khalifa al Maktoum, Dabster, a 4-year-old son of Curlin and the A.P. Indy mare On a Roll, led throughout to win the Brubaker as 7-10 choice.

The victory was the fourth in eight starts for Dabster, who has never competed at Los Alamitos or tried 10 furlongs, and pushed his earnings to $192,425.

Baffert also nominated Lookie Loo, a 4-year-old son of Candy Ride who has won two of six for owner Michael L. Petersen.

Trainer Phil D’Amato also nominated a pair – last out Del Mar winner Divisor and Ya Gotta Wanna, a distant second behind Fashion Business when 45-1 in the Grade 2 Del Mar Handicap on turf Aug. 18.

The remaining nominees are Colonist, El Huerfano, Engram, the filly India Mantuana, Little Scotty, Mercer Island, Rapid Red, Twentytwentyvision and Two Thirty Five.

Entries for the Los Alamitos Special will be taken Thursday, Sept. 13.
