Cyberknife's 1st foal is a filly born in New York
Spendthrift Farm’s Cyberknife, the son of Gun Runner who captured the Grade 1 Haskell and Arkansas Derby as a 3-year-old, sired his first reported foal Wednesday when a filly was born at Irish Hill Century Farm in Stillwater, N.Y.
Bred by Clay Scherer, the bay filly is the first foal out of Hildee John, a half-sister to seven-time stakes winner and 2018 Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Sprint runner-up Chalon.
“This filly has a good rear end and a nice round shoulder, a lot like Cyberknife. She has good size, leg and bone. She’s a nice foal especially for a maiden (mare),” said Rick Burke of Irish Hill Century Farm.
Cyberknife became Gun Runner’s first multiple Grade 1-winning colt after impressive victories in two of the biggest races for 3-year-olds in 2022, the Arkansas Derby and Haskell Invitational. In the latter, he outfinished multiple Grade One winners Taiba, Jack Christopher and White Abarrio in track-record time of 1:46.24, breaking a 37-year-old mark for 1 1/8 miles previously held by Spend a Buck.
Cyberknife also won the Matt Winn (G3) and was runner-up in the Travers (G1) and Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile, where he was narrowly defeated by champion older horse Cody’s Wish in the final start of his career. He earned $2,137,520 on the track.
Cyberknife is set to stand his second season at stud at Spendthrift for a fee of $25,000 standing and nursing.
