Curtis, Carmouche are unseated in Saturday spill at Aqueduct
Jockey Ben Curtis and Kendrick Carmouche were both unseated from their mounts in Saturday's fifth race at Aqueduct, a six-furlong maiden special weight sprint on the grass for juvenile fillies.
Sweet Rhythm, a second-time starter ridden by Kendrick Carmouche for trainer Linda Rice, fell and unnseated Carmouche on the far turn. Super Dreamy, a first-time starter for trainer Whit Beckman, fell and unseated Curtis just before reaching Sweet Rhythm and Carmouche.
According to a post on X from Keith McCalmont of NYRA, Ben Curtis is going to Jamaica Hospital for further evaluation of his leg. Carmouche was cleared to keep riding Saturday. Curtis had been named on morning-line favorite Drexel Hill in the Mother Goose (G2), scheduled as Saturday's ninth race at Aqueduct. Javier Castellano has been named to ride instead.
McCalmont also posted on X that Super Dreamy was apprehended and walked off the track under her own power. Sweet Rhythm suffered a catastrophic injury to her left front and was euthanized on the track.
The race was won by Belarosa, trained by Rudy Rodriguez and ridden by Jose Lezcano.
