Country Day Eyes Turf Sprint Win in Bonapaw

Richard, Bertram and Elaine Klein’s Country Day, who finished a game second, beaten a length and a half for all the money in the Grade II Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint Nov. 5 at last asking, has been installed as the 3-1 morning line choice for Saturday’s $75,000 Bonapaw Stakes at about 5 1/2-furlongs over the Stall-Wilson turf course.

Carl Moore Management’s Chamberlain Bridge, who ran eighth in this year’s Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint but won the 2010 renewal by a length and a half, is the early Bonapaw second choice at 4-1.

Country Day, trained by Steve Margolis, will be ridden by James Graham, while Chamberlain Bridge, a long-standing resident of trainer Bret Calhoun’s barn, will have regular rider Jamie Theriot back in the irons.

Facing the top two in the Bonapaw are: Charles Miller and Pat Dupuy’s Strike Impact, Robby Albarado up; Mary Jean Bonfili’s Wekiva Wachee, Corey Lanerie; Sadie and Ronnie Moore’s Uno Ducksy, Roman Chapa; Mary Grum’s Crystal Moment, Calvin Borel; Millennium Farms’ Great Mills, Shane Sellers; Maynard Chatters’ Southern Style, C. L. Marquez; and Whispering Oaks Farm’s Joe Hollywood, Rosie Napravnik.
