The $100,600 Trapeze Stakes wrapped up a big final day of the 2017 Remington Park Thoroughbred Season when Cosmic Burst made simple work of the one-mile event. The 2-year-old filly rolled to a commanding 5-1/4 length victory.

The Trapeze, the richest race for 2-year-old fillies at Remington Park, was over early according to her extremely confident jockeyRichard Eramia. “I knew I had it when the overnight came out. I had so much horse.”

Cosmic Burst still had to run the race and sat in mid-pack of the field of 11 for the first half of the race. She took control of the Trapeze in the middle of the second turn and pulled away, never asked by Eramia. Cosmic Burst hit the finish in 1:37.94 over the fast track, setting a new stakes record in the process.

The victory is the third straight for Cosmic Burst who broke her maiden at Keeneland in Lexington, Ky., in October and then won an allowance race at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Ky. in November. Her score at Remington has trainer Donnie Von Hemel seeing promise for 2018 when she turns three.

“She’s a very nice filly. Congratulations to the crew in Kentucky who helped get her ready and sent her out here. It’s been a little bit of a tough year but to finish like this gives us some momentum going into next year.”

Owned by the partnership of Norma Lee Stockseth and Todd Dunn of Corpus Christi, Texas, Cosmic Burst was the wagering favorite at 7-5 odds and paid $4.80 to win, $3.20 to place and $2.40 to show. Rose Of Malibu was along for second and returned $7.20 to place and $3.40 to show. Stronger Than Ever was third, seven lengths behind the winner, and paid $3.40 to show.

Bred in Pennsylvania by Pewter Stable, Cosmic Burst is by Violence from the Ghostzapper mare Peggy Ring. The third win of her career was worth $60,000 and moved her total earnings to $134,580.

The win in the Trapeze was the second for Von Hemel who saddled My Master Plan to the triumph in 2015. It is the first Trapeze stakes for the rest of the connections of Cosmic Burst.
