Coronavirus and horse racing: Which tracks are running?

On Thursday, a positive COVID-19 test from a backstretch worker led to the New York Racing Association indefinitely canceling races at Aqueduct.

On Friday, the Maryland Thoroughbred Horsemen’s Association announced a shutdown of Laurel Park on orders from Gov. Larry Hogan to prevent the spread of coronavirus.

But it appears a similar decree in California, a "stay at home" order, won't prevent racing from going on at Santa Anita Park and Golden Gate Fields.

Racing figures to go on elsewhere this weekend, too, in particular at Fair Grounds, where Saturday’s card is led by the Louisiana Derby (G2). Oaklawn Park continues to take entries, and Gulfstream Park, while on a one-day hiatus Friday, is expected to resume racing Saturday operating with increased safety protocols for horsemen.

Racing still has a national TV spotlight to grab if, well, there is racing this weekend. TVG’s Trackside Live is expected to be simulcast to NBC Sports Network, while America’s Day at the Races will air on Fox Sports 1 and 2 from Friday-Sunday.

Here’s an updated look at tracks around the country…
