Conquest Harlanate Earns BC Bid in Natalma
Conquest Stables LLC's juvenile filly Conquest Harlanate bore down on her rivals to win the first of four "Win and You're In" Breeders' Cup Challenge races this weekend.
In only her third career start, the daughter of Harlan's Holiday rallied late to chase down Isabella Sings, the 2-1 favorite in a field of 12, to score her first stakes victory in the Grade 2, $200,000 Natalma Stakes for 2-year-old fillies at Woodbine on Saturday.
Conquest Harlanate settled off a sharp early pace for jockey Patrick Husbands. Between rivals and behind a trio of frontrunners, the Mark Casse-trainee moved along the outside of the field, following Isabella Sings five wide into the stretch.
The eventual winner kept the favorite in her sights and dug in to get a neck in front at the wire.
Conquest Harlanate finished the mile on good turf in 1:40.61. Skinner Box was third.
A $120,000 Keeneland Yearling Sale purchase, Conquest Harlanate was bred in Ontario by Windhaven Farm. Sent off at 6-1, the filly paid $15.10 to win, $6.70 to place and $4.20 for the show.
Now a two-time winner from three career starts, including her maiden special weight victory on Aug. 3, Conquest Harlanate has earned a berth into the Breeders' Cup World Championships this fall due to the Natalma's "Win and You're In" status.
