The feature on Monday, the $150,000 Colonial Cup going 1 1/2 miles on turf, will be moved to Wednesday and will be run as originally drawn. A field of 11 is signed up with Cellist for trainer George Arnold the lukewarm 3-1 favorite with Julien Leparoux in the irons.
"The safety of our equine and human athletes is always a top priority at Colonial Downs," track officials said in a statement. "With excessive temperatures and heat indexes predicted, live racing on Monday July 25 has been cancelled."
Live racing will resume Tuesday with a nine-race program starting with a 2 1/4-miles steeplechase. First post is 1:45 PM EDT.
