See how to play Saturday's coast-to-coast Pick 5

Today starts week three for the coast-to-coast Pick 5 which has already paid well in the first two weeks.  Here are the results to date below.

Remember, the coast-to-coast is a $1 base Pick 5 with a low 15 percent takeout. This makes it tougher to get coverage on your tickets at a $1 base, which can lead to higher payoffs. The 15 percent takeout only helps payouts as well. I wrote last year about how well the coast-to-coast Pick 5 paid last year.

Here is the schedule for Saturday's races:

For today's Pick 5, here are the plays I am looking at:

Gulfstream Park race 9

The no. 1 Octane (7-5) will be a big favorite, but I will try to beat that one with no. 2 Lure Him In (5-2) who was extremely wide in the Harlan's Holiday (G3) last time out, and no. 3 Cashier Check (12-1) with Irad Ortiz, Jr. up. Cashier Check has never been in a dirt route and should appreciate that move as Midnight Storm's have been running well in dirt routes, winning 19 percent of the time.

Gulfstream Park race 10

I love the way no. 8 Deer District (9-2) ran last year, finishing up his campaign with a second behind New York Thunder at Saratoga. He comes in here of a layoff and I will single him.

Gulfstream Park race 11

This wide-open maiden race on the turf is the spread race of the sequence. I'm not impressed with the first-time starters, so I'm going to give a chance to most of the horses with experience along with the foreign shipper.  Play no. 1 Dilger and no. 6 Royal Majesty as A horses with no. 3 Mo' Spresso, no. 5 Bourbon Outlaw and no. 8 Pet Mat as B horses.

Santa Anita race 5

Here the no. 2 Maximum Capacity (3-1) should be a big favorite and will be my focus, but I don't want to lose the wager if he doesn't fire so I will back up using no. 4 Daddy Justify, no. 5 Bigredsadnribeyes, no. 6 Audible Silence and no. 8 Potential Spam as B horses.

Santa Anita race 6

There's not much pace in this dirt allowance sprint and I'm going to focus on three of the logical contenders in no. 5 Scary Fast Ride (9-5), no. 3 Diamonds Danzing (4-1) and no. 7 Wishtheyallcouldbe (3-1).

Good luck, and remember the coast-to-coast Pick 5 returns Sunday as well.
