Coast-to-coast Pick 5 pays great Saturday; let’s jump in Sunday
The Coast-to-Coast Pick 5 paid amazing Saturday, and it’s back Sunday with the customary 15 percent low takeout and $1 base. I’ve written before how the Coast-to-Coast payoffs greatly exceed expectations, so I’m excited that we have it back for the Santa Anita autumn meet.
Saturday’s results
SA3 - $4.00
GP9 - $12.40
SA4 - $29.80
SA 5 - $3.80
GP11 - $3.60
$1 parlay - $632. $1 payoff - $6,034. Payoff vs. Parlay = 9.5x.
That’s right, yesterday the wager paid huge at 9.5 times the parlay. This is the type of wager you want to be involved in and look at every day its available.
Analyzing Sunday’s races
I like Sunday’s sequence as a nice blend of wide open races, tighter races and beatable favorites. It won’t cost a fortune to play and could reward us handsomely.
Leg 1, Gulfstream Park race 8
We start off with a race washed off the turf and on the Tapeta, but I see that as a good thing. This is a nice spread race which will force others to single later in the sequence. Let’s use 1, 2, 3 and 8, all of whom have a shot here in this wide-open race.
Use 1, 2, 3, 8.
Leg 2, Santa Anita race 4 - Grade 3 Surfer Girl stakes
In this 2-year-old filly stakes, no. 5 Thought Process looks like a standout and is 2-5 on the morning line. She looks good but let’s also try to beat her with no. 1 Jack’s Magic Girl who won her only turf race going away easily before taking on the best in the West running fourth in the Grade 1 Del Mar Debutante.
Use 1, 5.
Leg 3, Gulfstream Park race 10
This off-the-turf Tapeta race is for $16,000 claiming non-winners of two races. Almost all the action should settle on the 5,10 but let’s include the 3 at 9-2 which would be a nice upset here.
Use 3, 5, 10.
Leg 4, Santa Anita race 7
This is a another spread-type race where I think you want to use the 1,8 for sure, and we’ll add the no. 4 just in case.
Use 1, 4, 8.
Leg 5, Santa Anita race 8 - Grade 3 Zuma Beach
Here there are four horses between 3-1 and 9-2 on the morning line, but I think we can zero in on the top two choices. No. 3 Iron Man Cal, the 3-1 lukewarm morning-line favorite looks solid coming in off a powerful maiden-breaking win over the Del Mar turf where he was ridden out to victory. I like the no. 5 Artislas less, but he is a good use here at 7-2 and is two for two over the grass. Interestingly, both the no. 5 and 6 have pretty poor sire stats over the grass.
Use 3, 5.
Here's what the full ticket looks like:
That’s a $144 ticket, and if we can beat a couple favorites, it could pay off very generously.
