Coalport Cruises in Keeneland Feature
Ken and Sarah Ramsey’s homebred Coalport took the lead on the far turn and cruised to a 1¾-length victory over Bad Debt in the featured $66,000 Flaxman Holdings Purse before a Thursday afternoon crowd of 9,598.
Trained by Mike Maker and ridden by Rosie Napravnik, Coalport covered the 1 1/8 miles on a firm turf course in 1:47.94.
The victory was worth $33,720 and increased Coalport’s earnings to $390,998 with a record of 21-7-4-0. Coalport is a 5-year-old Illinois-bred son of Kitten’s Joy out of the Saint Ballado mare Ballade’s Girl.
Sent off as the favorite in the field of eight, Coalport returned $4.40, $3 and $2.40. Bad Debt, ridden by Paco Lopez, returned $5.40 and $3.80 with Margano paying $3.60 to show under James Graham.
Racing continues Friday with a 10-race program that begins at 1:05 p.m. ET. Highlighting the program is the 18th running of the $100,000 Buffalo Trace Franklin County for fillies and mares going 5½ furlongs on the turf and is the ninth race with a 5:13 p.m. post time.
