Cool Arrow Tops 28 Nominations in Clever Trevor Stakes
The $100,000 Clever Trevor Stakes will be contested Friday night, Nov. 4 at Remington Park. The Clever Trevor pulled a list of 28 nominations with many that competed in the $75,000 Kip Deville Stakes in September, set to return to 2-year-old stakes competition.
Cool Arrow, winner of the Kip Deville Stakes on the undercard of the Oklahoma Derby, has nominated to the Clever Trevor Stakes. Trained by Joe Sharp, Cool Arrow has been posting regular breezes at the Churchill Downs training facility in Louisville, Ky. Cool Arrow would put a two-race winning streak on the line if he were to travel to Remington Park for the Clever Trevor.
Many who finished behind Cool Arrow in the Kip Deville Stakes are considered to be probable for the Clever Trevor Stakes when the entries are taken at the Remington Park racing office on Tuesday, Nov. 1. Mannford and Cu Rahy, the second and third-place finishers in the Kip Deville, are both expected to be entered Tuesday morning.
Mannford finished 2-1/2 lengths behind Cool Arrow in the Kip Deville, the Ohio-bred colt by Ready’s Image has three official workouts at Remington Park since his last race. Monday morning, Oct. 24, Mannford traveled five furlongs in 1:01.01 over a fast track, handily, for National Hall of Fame trainer Steve Asmussen.
Owned by HFT-Xpress Racing Stables of Aledo, Texas and trained by Danele Durham, Cu Rahy has posted four official workouts since finishing five lengths behind Cool Arrow in the Kip Deville. Friday morning, Oct. 28, Cu Rahy worked four furlongs in :48.53 seconds, handily, over a fast track.
Other 2-year-olds likely to enter the Clever Trevor Stakes include: Prados Way, a stakes winner at Albuquerque Downs in August and most recently 10th in the Grade 3, $250,000 Bourbon Stakes at Keeneland on Oct. 9; Walking In Faith, Score Time and U S Officer, fifth, sixth and seventh respectively in the Kip Deville; and D R C Majestic Man, a seven-length winner in breaking his maiden status at Remington Park in a 6-1/2 furlong race on Oct. 19.
Named in honor of the Oklahoma-bred millionaire and winner of the first Oklahoma Derby, the Clever Trevor Stakes serves as the final local prep event for the richest 2-year-old race at Remington Park, the $300,000 Springboard Mile on Dec. 11.
