David Korkames’ Clever Thirteen, away alertly but allowed to settle, commenced a rally along the inside when set down for the drive, took command well inside the furlong marker but quickly drew off to post a 6 1/4-length victory in Wednesday’s Fair Grounds feature, a $43,000 allowance optional claiming restricted to accredited Louisiana-bred fillies and mares.

Trained by Dewaine Loy and ridden by Jose Riquelme, Clever Thirteen accomplished the about one mile distance over a Stall-Wilson turf course rated “good” in 1:40.49, increased her career earnings to $121,944 with her fifth victory in 18 lifetime starts and returned mutuels of $11.60, $6.60 and $4.80

William Deckwa Jr.’s Lee City, who made the pace with splits of 25.24 and 49.58, clearly held down the second spot at the wire, paying $3.80 and $3.40 while finishing two lengths to the good of Robert Orth and Wesley Hawley’s favored Nana Knows, who had no late rally and finished third, returning $4.60 to show.

Racing resumes Thursday at Fair Grounds with a nine-race program beginning at 12:40 p.m.
