Clement has two for Pebbles
Trainer Christophe Clement could send
two fillies to the Columbus Day running of the Pebbles at one mile on
the turf, with Ruthenia his most likely candidate and Miss Liberty, a
new addition to the barn, also under consideration for the race.
"Ruthenia,
she'll be the logical choice," Clement said. "She came from Saratoga in
good order, and she has been running well although she has not won a
stakes this year. This is a logical step. The French filly, Miss
Liberty, we'll work her this weekend and we'll decide after that."
Ruthenia,
a full sister to Grade 1-winning turf mare Rutherienne, whom Clement
also trained, finished second in two consecutive grass stakes at
Saratoga, the Riskaverse on September 2 and the Hattie Moseley on July
30. The daughter of Pulpit is campaigned by her breeder, Virginia Kraft
Payson.
Miss Liberty, a stakes winner in her native
France was recently purchased in partnership by a group that includes
George Bolton and sent to the United States, Clement said. The Pebbles
would be her first start in this country after recording four wins, one
second and one third from nine starts abroad.
