Clement has Options for New York

Trainer Christophe Clement could send out two or even possibly three runners in next Saturday’s Grade 2 New York for fillies and mares, the trainer’s assistant, Christophe Lorieul, said Sunday morning.

Lorieul said Newsells Park Stud’s Giants Play, second in the Grade 2 Sheepshead Bay on May 28, is most likely to represent the Clement barn in the New York, which will be contested at 1 ¼ miles on turf. She could be joined by Robert Scarborough’s Cheetah and/or Castleton Lyons’ Tarrip, respectively third and fifth in the Sheepshead Bay.

“The logical one would be Giants Play, who was second last time to Godolphin’s filly [Hibaayeb],” said Lorieul. “But it’s a bit stupid to always run the three fillies against each other. So I would say, most likely, we’ll run two. Giants Play came out of the race very well, but we’ll probably have to take on Godolphin once again.”

Clement is seeking his third victory in the New York, having captured the race in 2001 with England’s Legend and in 2007 with Mauralakana.
