Classofsixtythree Wins Monmouth Feature

Lee Pokoik’s Classofsixtythree rallied between horses in deep stretch and ran down Very Sweet, the 3-5 favorite, to upset the $82,000 allowance feature at Monmouth Park on Friday.

Classofsixtythree, trained by Gary Contessa and ridden by Elvis Trujillo, scored by a neck and stepped the one-mile over a fast main track in 1:38 1/5. She paid $15.20, $4.60 and $2.40 across the board as the third choice in the field of seven fillies and mares.

Very Sweet, who took command around the clubhouse turn and led until the final 50 yards, returned $2.40 and $2.10 and completed the $42.60 exacta. Debonair Darling finished third, nearly two lengths behind Very Sweet, paying $2.80 to show.

This was the second win of the year in six starts for Classofsixtythree, a 4-year-old filly by Include * Rambling Rose, by Blush Rambler. In her Monmouth debut on June 4, she finished third. Her first win of the year came in an allowance at Aqueduct in March.

Joe Bravo, aboard Very Sweet, rode his filly to the lead around the first turn and down the backstretch, laying down sensible fractions of :47 for the half and 1:11 2/5 for the six furlongs. He held a daylight lead in midstretch, but the winner rallied along the rail, split horses at the sixteenth pole and sailed right on by the favorite in the final strides.
