Lewis Lakin's homebred PURE CLAN (Pure Prize) proved to be much the best in
the $200,000 Modesty H. (G3) over the Arlington Park turf course on Saturday,
taking over in the lane and drawing clear by a convincing 2 1/2 lengths at the
wire. Kept wide throughout by Julien Leparoux, the Bob Holthus trainee got her
cue at the top of the stretch and she responded immediately, pulling clear with
each stride. She completed the 1 3/16-mile firm turf event in 1:55 1/5 and
returned $3.60, $2.20 and $2.10 as the 4-5 choice.
