All-inclusive tickets planned for 2021 Kentucky Derby

Churchill Downs Racetrack is not sure what capacity will be for the 2021 Kentucky Derby, but it has a new attendance plan in place for the first Saturday in May.

In a letter to season box-seat holders and Turf Club members, the track said tickets for next year's Kentucky Oaks and Derby will be offered first to guests with contractual seating, such as personal seat licenses; and those with memberships and annual tickets.

The next tier to be offered tickets will be customers who received refunds for the 2020 events, which were rescheduled to the first weekend in September because of the COVID pandemic. No fans were allowed for the 2020 Derby and Oaks.

And Churchill Downs is trying something new: all-inclusive ticketing.

For the 2021 Kentucky Derby and Oaks, all reserved seating — clubhouse boxes, grandstand boxes and bleachers — will include food, non-alcoholic beverages and alcoholic beverages.

The track said this should reduce the time that guests spend in line and will eliminate the need to carry extra cash for food and beverages.

Churchill also promised a greater variety of food, and the packages include mint julep and lily commemorative glasses.
