Check out big figs from Knicks Go, other weekend winners
If television commentary and social-media buzz meant anything, Knicks Go passed most of the eye tests for his dominant, gate-to-wire triumph Saturday in the Grade 1, $1 million Whitney Stakes at Saratoga.
He also passed the test among those who measured his speed.
Knicks Go’s 111 Beyer Speed Figure was not only the best of those reported so far from the weekend’s winners, it was also the second highest for any horse this year. In the list compiled by "At the Races" radio host Steve Byk, the only one higher was his own 113 that he earned for his Cornhusker Handicap (G3) victory at Prairie Meadows on July 2.
The 5-year-old Paynter horse who is owned by the Korea Racing Authority and trained by Brad Cox also collected a 130 speed rating from TimeformUS.
With the figures from late Sunday still to be reported, the Daily Racing Form posted five other Beyers of at least 100, including four from Saratoga – Fast Boat (103, Troy, G3), Art Collector (102, Alydar), Flavius (102, Lure) and Bella Sofia (101, Test, G1).
Del Mar produced one triple-digit Beyer. Princess Grace earned a 102 for her win in Saturday’s Yellow Ribbon Handicap (G2).
TimeformUS gave Flavius a 125 rating for his Lure victory. War Like Goddess received a 122 for her win Saturday in the Glens Falls Stakes (G2). Bella Sofia’s Test score was worth 121.
Away from Saratoga, Mr. Wireless earned a TimeformUS Speed Figure of 118 for his victory in the West Virginia Derby (G3) at Mountaineer. Sprawl got a 117 for finishing first there in the West Virginia Governor’s Stakes (G3). Catch a Bid was rewarded with a 116 for winning the West Virginia Senate President’s Cup.
