Chasing 10,000 wins: Asmussen moves within 1 of milestone

With early afternoon wins in the openers at Oaklawn and Sam Houston, Steve Asmussen within one victory of becoming the first trainer from North America to reach 10,000 career wins.
His last 22 chances, though, to reach the milestone came up short, so he will resume his quest Sunday.
First-time starter Noble Honor (3-1) led from gate to wire under jockey Stewart Elliott to finish first to start the card at the Texas track. That was a half-hour after a strong move down the stretch gave Canada’s Customs (6-1) the three-quarter-length victory in the first race at Oaklawn.

The day will ended for Asmussen with his three entrants in the Risen Star (G2) finishing off the board.
