Charlatan's first two foals are born
Charlatan's first two foals were born this month, according to a news release from Hill 'N' Dale Farm.
Chris Baccari reported the birth of a bay colt by Charlatan out of Inventive on Jan. 17 at his Seclusive Farm in Lexington, Ky.
The colt is a half brother to Del Mar Futurity (G1) winner Klimt as well as to Grade 3-placed West Coast Chick.
"This colt has strength, power, substance and great bone,” Baccari said. “Excited to have other mares in foal to Charlatan and will plan to breed back to him after seeing this colt. I think Charlatan has a ton of potential with the likelihood of siring a great racehorse.”
Mill Ridge Farm reported the birth of a beautiful bay filly out of Vevina on Jan. 20. Bred by RPS Bloodstock, the foal is out of the stakes-placed More Than Ready mare who sold as a yearling for $500,000 and again at the 2022 Keeneland November sale for $400,000 in foal to Charlatan. Vevina is a half sister to G2 winner Friar’s Road, who sold as a yearling for $500,000.
"She is a nice, leggy filly with good bone and correct,” said Price Bell of Mill Ridge Farm.
Charlatan, the multiple G1 winning 6-year-old son of Speightstown, earned $4,047,200 winning 4 of 5 starts by a combined 26 1/2 lengths. A $700,000 yearling, Charlatan won from six furlongs to 1 1/8 miles. In 2022, he was the leading sire of CI and CPI for all stallions standing between $50,000 and $99,000. His first in-foal mare sold for up to $1,000,000.
