Nest, the 2022 champion 3-year-old filly, was retired after developing ““a slight abnormality in her hind ankle,” owner Mike Repole told Daily Racing Form.

She was shipped to Lane’s End and will be bred to Uncle Mo, according to the report.

The 5-year-old daughter of Curlin retires with a record of 14: 8-2-2 and earnings of $2,172,675.

Originally purchased as a yearling for $350,000, Repole Stable took full ownership of Nest when buying her for $6 million in February.

Trained by Todd Pletcher, Nest won her debut and went 2-for-3 as a juvenile, then opened her 3-year-old season with wins in the Suncoast and Grade 1 Ashland. She was second in the Kentucky Oaks (G1) to Secret Oath and then took on males in the Belmont Stakes, finishing second to stablemate Mo Donegal. She went on to win the Coaching Club American Oaks (G1), Alabama (G1) and Beldame (G2) before finishing fourth in the Breeders’ Cup Distaff.

Her first start as a 4-year-old was a win in the Shuvee (G2) in July, followed by a third in the Personal Ensign (G1) and a fourth in the Spinster (G2), which was her final race.

Repole told DRF that plans called for Nest to race this year until her condition was detected.
